What is the best way to remove scratches from eyeglasses?

I got a pair of eyeglasses a few months ago and got a little scratch on them thats driving me nuts. My eye seems to wander to that spot all the time. How do you either remove or make the scratch less noticeable. I have tried glass cleaner.soap and water. Nothing helped. What else is there to try? Other than get a new lens.
